October Week 4

Do before the weekend:
Read: Putting on the Armor of God Chapter 10 and think of an area
in your life that you may be displaying a bit of addictive behavior –
some temptation that you give into again, despite your good intentions
to do better (overeating, staying up late, getting angry, social media,
etc) With God’s help, work on one of these behaviors this week.  Write
what you learned in your journal. Track your 6 goals!

Do the rest of the study week:
 1. Word Study: Write your thoughts about what you learned about the principle for this month through your word studies and in class. Please include how you intend to live differently because of what you learned and the personal definitions you wrote in the two word studies the last two weeks.
2. Read: Polyanna (girls) or Stargirl (boys) OR both - and compare/contrast Polyanna with Stargirl!
3. Read: to page 64 of What Would the Founding Fathers Think?
4. Create: Create a final way to share what you learned about having a Christlike heart this month. Include some of the evidence that you learned in scripture, stories, nature, people and your experience (This can be your project for master class as well). Post what you are doing on the blog by Monday.

Some ideas:
-Create a lesson (maybe for FHE or mutual) about why and how to change your heart and give it
-Make up game or simulation that will teach what you learned and play it with a group
-Find out about someone that you don’t know well who is in need, plan and do service for them.
-Make a video - maybe about things you are grateful for and how gratitude can change a heart or about the process of change, for example.
-Write a song and preform it (or ask someone to preform it), film it and share it online or in class.
-Write a poem that includes visual aids or art work and share it online.
-Write a story or essay, include visual aids or art work, and share it online.

5. Optional: Read or listen to Uncle Tom's Cabin to Chapter 16

JOURNEYMAN:
Read: Aspire – Chapter 7 and write your thoughts in your journal
Bring: a project from Core, Journeyman or Master for review and revision
Free Writing: Choose a word. Think of 3 synonyms, antonyms, and rhyming words. Write about or draw what you picture in your head when you think of your word. (To be completed before class)
Turn in: your submission for the journal.
Using Ephesians 6:13-17 write one poem using one of the following styles(which will be studied in class):
1. Synonym Poem
2. Opposite Poem
3. Poem of address
4. Narrative
5. Cinquain

MASTER:
Write: a final paper or blog post about what you learned from this book throughout the month. Did this book change you? If so, how? Do you plan to move forward a changed person? Make a plan to how you are going to accomplish that and start doing it! Take your writing to Journeyman on Wednesday for review. Take your final paper to class when we discuss the book.
Create: Pick a way from the list below to present what you learned from the book and how you can apply it to your life. Pick a different option than you chose last month.
1.       Write a poem
2.       Make a poster board presentation
3.       Write and present a speech
4.       Draw a picture about what you learned
5.       Create a painting or a sculpture about what you learned
6.       Bring an object lesson to share
7.       Build something to represent what you learned
8.       Play a song on an instrument that represents what you learned
9.       Compose a song based on what you learned
10.   Make a video about what you learned
11.   Write a letter to someone sharing the principles that you learned and how you want to apply them to your life
12.   Compare and contrast two characters of the book and the outcome of their decisions
13.   Think of another creative way you can present the lessons that you learned from this book and get it approved by Brother or Sister Pack

Email a discussion question to Sister Housholder and Sis. Pack by Wednesday November 5th

PRINCIPLES OF FREEDOM:
·         Principles of Liberty: Do the Principles of Liberty Course, month 2, week 4 in your student manual.  Bring your notes, thoughts, and answers to the questions to class.
·         Continue: working on your goal to have a servant heart.  How’s it going? Record in your journal the changes you’ve seen.

GREAT BOOKS:
Read: The Inner Ring by C.S. Lewis (free online). Bring your notes, share a quote and a discussion question on the Great Books blog
